Health
Reference only, not medical advice. Taiwan has high food hygiene standards, but use safe-food habits; mains water is treated, yet many visitors choose boiled/bottled water if building plumbing is uncertain. Dengue occurs, especially in warmer urban/southern areas; avoid mosquito bites. Summers are hot/humid with typhoons; hydrate and plan shade. High mountains exceed 3,000m, so ascend gradually.
Vaccinations
Consult a doctor or travel clinic at least 4 weeks before travel. Be current on routine vaccines, including MMR, Tdap, polio, flu, varicella/shingles as appropriate, plus COVID-19. CDC recommends hepatitis A for unvaccinated travelers and hepatitis B for unvaccinated travelers of all ages. Japanese encephalitis may be discussed for long stays, rural travel, hiking/camping, or uncertain itineraries. Rabies pre-exposure vaccine depends on animal-contact risk and access to care. Yellow fever vaccine is not recommended and no certificate is required for Taiwan.
eSIM / connectivity
eSIM is broadly usable on compatible phones, with strong 4G/5G service in cities and variable coverage in mountains, the east coast, and offshore islands. Major local carriers include Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, and Far EasTone; tourist prepaid SIM/data counters are common at major airports, and eSIM/tourist data options may be available via carriers or travel eSIM providers. Check passport registration, device compatibility, and hotspot/voice needs before buying.
