From the airport
Kahului Airport (OGG) is the main airport for Kihei. Rental car, taxi, rideshare, or prebooked shuttle are the simplest choices; central Kihei is usually about 20-35 minutes by road, longer to Wailea/Makena or in traffic. Public bus is possible but slow: airport routes 35/40 connect toward Kahului, then transfer to Route 10 Kihei Islander for Kihei/Wailea; plan around hourly service and carry-on-size luggage limits. Kapalua Airport (JHM) is much farther west and not the usual arrival airport for Kihei.

Around the city
Kihei has no metro or rail. Maui Bus is the public transit system: Route 10 links Kahului-Maalaea-Kihei-Wailea, and Route 15 serves Maalaea-Kihei. If using buses more than once, get the Maui Bus day pass from the driver; single rides are cash fare. Check schedules before committing, because headways are long and evening service is limited. South Kihei Road is walkable in pockets, but a car is useful for Wailea, Makena, Haleakala, the Road to Hana, groceries, and late dinners.
