Kahului Airport (OGG) is Maui’s primary airport and a practical island gateway rather than a major global connecting hub. It handles inter-island flights, U.S. mainland transpacific services and some Canada-linked service; Hawaiian and Mokulele have the strongest local role, but OGG is not a major alliance hub in the way HNL, LAX or SEA are. The airport is compact, with most travelers using the main terminal’s north/south gate areas and commuter-style operations for smaller island flights. Transfers are usually walkable, but self-connections should allow time for baggage, TSA re-screening and outbound USDA agriculture inspection on mainland-bound itineraries. For town, taxi or rideshare is the easiest choice: Kahului is close, typically around 10 minutes by road, while resort areas require much longer ground transfers. Lounge choice is limited: Hawaiian Airlines Premier Club is the main named lounge presence, with no broad flagship or Priority Pass/DragonPass landscape to plan around.
