Health
Canada has high public-health and food-safety standards; municipal tap water is generally safe, but treat lake/stream water when hiking or camping. Outdoor travelers should plan for ticks and mosquitoes, strong summer UV, heat waves, wildfire smoke, sudden mountain weather, and severe winter cold. In the Rockies, pace high-elevation hikes and hydrate.
Vaccinations
Consult a doctor or travel clinic before travel. CDC advises being up to date on routine vaccines, including MMR, polio, flu, varicella, Tdap, shingles as appropriate, and COVID-19. Hepatitis A may be considered for most travelers, especially rural/smaller-city or street-food plans; hepatitis B is recommended for unvaccinated travelers under 60. Rabies pre-exposure vaccination is only for higher-risk animal/bat exposure or remote access concerns. Yellow fever vaccine is not recommended and no certificate is required for Canada.
eSIM / connectivity
eSIM is widely supported in Canada on major networks, including Rogers, Bell and TELUS; Freedom Mobile/Videotron also serve many urban or regional markets. Travelers can look for prepaid/BYOD eSIM options where offered, or use international travel eSIM providers for data-only service. Check that your phone is unlocked, supports Canadian LTE/5G bands, and that coverage fits rural, northern or park travel.
