Where to Base
Most commercial and residential development is concentrated on the southern half of the island, making it the ideal base for hotels, dining, and shopping. The northern half remains largely marsh or woodland, offering a quieter, nature-focused experience for those preferring solitude and outdoor exploration.
Getting Around
The primary mode of travel to and around the island is by automobile via the F.J. Torras Causeway. Malcolm McKinnon Airport serves general aviation. For most visitors, renting a car is the best way to access the southern attractions and the northeastern nature preserves efficiently.
Best Season
With its warm climate, St. Simons Island is visitable year-round. Summer is ideal for beach activities, while spring and fall offer pleasant weather for hiking and historical tours. Note that nearly 27% of housing units are for seasonal use, indicating higher visitor density during peak seasons, so advance planning is recommended.
