Where to Base
Base yourself in the city center or along the Mulan River. These areas offer the best connectivity to business districts and transport links. Staying centrally provides easier access to local dining and serves as a convenient launchpad for day trips to nearby attractions like Meizhou Island, ensuring a comfortable stay with minimal transit time.
Getting Around
There is no commercial airport in Putian; travelers typically fly into Fuzhou or Quanzhou and take ground transport to the city. Within Putian, public buses and taxis are the primary modes of transport. The Mulan River area is pleasant for walking. Given the city's compact size, taxi fares are generally reasonable, though traffic congestion can occur during peak hours in the central districts.
Best Season
Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant weather for exploring outdoor sites and cultural landmarks. Summer can be hot and rainy, with potential typhoon disruptions, while winter is mild but occasionally damp. Note that the city sees increased tourism during the Mazu Birthday festival (lunar March), so booking accommodations well in advance is advisable during this period.
