Getting there & around

From the airport

McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) near Knoxville is the main commercial airport for Gatlinburg; Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport (GKT) is mainly general aviation. There is no train or metro to Gatlinburg. Best options are rental car, prebooked shuttle/private transfer, taxi, or rideshare; expect about 60-75 minutes to downtown Gatlinburg in normal traffic, longer on peak weekends. Public bus service is not a practical airport-to-Gatlinburg option.

Around the city

Downtown Gatlinburg is best explored on foot, especially along the Parkway. The Gatlinburg Trolley is the main local transit system and currently has no fares or fees, so tourists do not need a transit card; use the Trolley Locator app and the Park-n-Ride at the Gatlinburg Welcome Center to avoid downtown parking. A car is still useful for cabins, the Arts & Crafts loop, Pigeon Forge, and most national-park trailheads. If parking inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park for more than 15 minutes, check the park parking-tag rules.
