Health
For visitors, the main practical risks are food/water illness, mosquitoes, heat/UV, reef/sea injuries, diving safety, and flood-related infections after heavy rain. Use sealed bottled or treated water if unsure, be cautious with ice/raw or undercooked food, protect against dengue/Zika/chikungunya mosquitoes, hydrate and use sun protection. No high-altitude issue for typical trips; remote islands may have limited medical care.
Vaccinations
Reference only: consult a doctor or travel clinic at least 4 weeks before travel. Be up to date on routine vaccines, including MMR, polio, tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis, influenza, varicella/shingles as applicable, plus COVID-19. CDC commonly recommends hepatitis A and typhoid for Fiji, and hepatitis B for unvaccinated travelers; rabies may be considered for animal-risk or remote travel. Yellow fever vaccine is not recommended for Fiji itself, but Fiji requires a certificate for travelers age 1+ arriving from, or transiting over 12 hours in, yellow-fever-risk countries.
eSIM / connectivity
Connectivity is good around Nadi, Suva, Denarau and many resort areas, but weaker on outer islands and at sea. The main local mobile carriers are Vodafone Fiji and Digicel Fiji. Tourist SIM/data options are commonly available at Nadi airport and carrier shops. Local eSIM availability should be checked directly with the carrier before departure; many travelers who need eSIM use international travel eSIMs that roam on local networks.
