Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) is Bangkok’s older airport and now functions mainly as a low-cost, domestic and regional international gateway rather than a global alliance hub. Thai AirAsia, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air are the key home carriers here; most premium long-haul and alliance-heavy flying remains associated with Suvarnabhumi (BKK). The airport is compact by Bangkok standards: Terminal 1 handles international flights and Terminal 2 handles domestic flights, with the terminals connected in the same complex and an airport shuttle operating between public-side points during the day. For the city, the most predictable route is usually the SRT Dark Red Line from Don Mueang station to Krung Thep Aphiwat, then MRT/BTS onward; taxis can be simpler with luggage but are much less predictable in Bangkok traffic. For connections, treat many DMK itineraries as low-cost/self-transfer unless your airline confirms through-check and protected transfer. There is no major airside transit-hotel scene; for proper sleep, Amari Don Muang is landside and linked to Terminal 1 by walkway.
