Getting there & around

From the airport

Most visitors use Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ), about 75-100 minutes by prebooked shared/private shuttle, taxi/car service, or rental car to Telluride/Mountain Village; winter road time can vary. Telluride Regional Airport (TEX) is closest, about 15-20 minutes west of town, but has limited flights and mountain-weather disruptions. There is no train or metro airport link. Bustang/Outrider serves the region but is less convenient than a direct shuttle for first arrivals.

Around the city

Telluride is compact: stay in town or Mountain Village and you can usually walk. The free Galloping Goose bus loops around town, and the free gondola links Telluride, San Sophia, and Mountain Village in about 13 minutes; check seasonal maintenance and late-night hours. No tourist transit card is needed. Use SMART regional buses or Bustang/Outrider for nearby towns, and avoid relying on a car for in-town parking during peak ski and festival periods.

Loyalty program coverage

Before choosing where to stay

Where to Base

Travelers should choose between Mountain Village, which houses the ski resort and offers modern amenities, or the historic Telluride town center. Mountain Village provides direct access to winter sports and summer activities, while the town center offers a more traditional atmosphere and proximity to local culture.

Getting Around

Navigation relies heavily on walking and local shuttle services due to the steep terrain and limited parking. Hotels serve as excellent bases for exploring the region, utilizing free public transit systems to move efficiently between Mountain Village and the historic town center.

Best Season

Winter is ideal for skiing at the Telluride Ski Resort, while summer offers excellent hiking and nature views. The autumn film festival period brings a vibrant cultural atmosphere, making it a unique time for travelers interested in cinema and local events.
