San Siro

Milan is the fashion and business capital of Northern Italy, renowned globally for its design, finance, and football culture. At the heart of its sporting identity lies the San Siro, officially the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Located in the San Siro district, this iconic venue serves as the home ground for both AC Milan and Inter Milan, hosting the famous Derby della Madonnina. With a capacity of over 75,000, it is Italy's largest stadium and a UEFA Category 4 facility. The stadium has a rich history, having hosted World Cup matches in 1934 and 1990, Euro 1980 fixtures, and multiple European Cup finals. It will also host the opening ceremony for the 2026 Winter Olympics. For frequent travelers, Milan offers diverse neighborhoods suitable for various trip purposes, from the historic center near the Duomo to the vibrant districts surrounding the stadium.

Before choosing where to stay

Where to Base

For most travelers, staying in the city center near the Duomo or in the Porta Monzone area is ideal. The city center offers easy access to major landmarks, shopping, and dining. The Porta Monzone district, located closer to the San Siro stadium, is excellent for those attending matches, offering convenient access to the venue and a lively local atmosphere with numerous restaurants and bars.

Getting Around

Milan is well-connected by an extensive metro and bus network. From Malpensa Airport, the Malpensa Express train takes approximately 50 minutes to reach Milano Centrale station in the city center. For those arriving at Linate Airport, the journey is shorter, taking about 20 minutes via metro or taxi to reach the central areas, making it highly convenient for short stays or business trips.

Best Season

Spring (April-June) and Autumn (September-October) offer the most pleasant weather for sightseeing and walking tours. Summer can be hot but often coincides with football seasons and events. Winter is cold but festive, especially during the Christmas market period. Travelers should note that hotel availability may be tight during major match days at the San Siro or fashion weeks, so booking in advance is recommended.
