Milan Malpensa is Milan’s main long-haul international airport and the broader region’s big global gateway, with a mix of European, North American, Middle Eastern and Asian service. It is not a classic Star Alliance, oneworld or SkyTeam connecting hub; after Alitalia’s retreat, its role is more point-to-point and hybrid, with easyJet strong at Terminal 2, Neos based at Malpensa, and many long-haul and low-cost carriers using Terminal 1. For most travelers, the practical split is simple: Terminal 1 handles nearly everything except easyJet, while Terminal 2 is the easyJet terminal. The best city link is usually the Malpensa Express train: roughly 37 minutes from T1 to Milano Cadorna, about 51 minutes from T1 to Milano Centrale, and a few minutes longer from T2. Connections are manageable but not seamless like a purpose-built alliance hub; allow extra time for non-Schengen formalities, terminal changes, and separate tickets.
