Where to Base
The town center, near the junction of the A470 and A44 roads, is the primary area for accommodation. It offers convenient access to the Elan Valley and Cambrian Mountains for hiking. Most lodging consists of boutique B&Bs or small hotels, providing a quiet and authentic local experience.
Getting Around
There are no direct airport connections. It is 30 miles east of Aberystwyth and 13 miles north of Builth Wells. Renting a car is highly recommended to explore the expansive community and surrounding mountain landscapes effectively.
Best Season
Spring and summer are ideal for outdoor exploration. Be aware of extreme winter cold; the town holds the record for the lowest temperature in Wales at -23.3°C. If visiting in winter, ensure you have adequate cold-weather gear.
