Where to Base
For hotel travelers, staying along the beachfront or in the downtown core is optimal. The beach area features a high density of motels and B&Bs, offering immediate beach access. Downtown provides proximity to the wooden pier, clam shacks, and retail shops, ensuring convenience for dining and entertainment without needing a car.
Getting Around
The town is compact and walkable, particularly between the downtown area, the pier, and the beach hotels. Most tourist attractions are within easy walking distance. However, for exploring the wider York County or traveling to Portland, renting a car is recommended as public transportation options may be limited outside the immediate resort zone.
Best Season
Summer is the peak season for visiting Old Orchard Beach. The weather is pleasant, and all beach-related activities, restaurants, and shops are fully operational. Since the town is a seasonal resort destination, many businesses may have reduced hours or close entirely in the winter, so planning a summer trip ensures the best experience.
