Getting there & around

From the airport

Dalaman Airport (DLM) is the main airport for Marmaris, about 95 km east. There is no train or metro. Airport shuttle coaches such as Havaş/MUTTAŞ, when operating, run to Marmaris Otogar and usually take about 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic and stops. A pre-booked transfer or taxi is simplest door to door and is typically about 75-90 minutes to the centre. Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) is a secondary fallback, farther away; expect roughly 2.5-3.5 hours by car or coach via Muğla.

Around the city

Marmaris has no metro, tram or urban rail. Visitors mainly use dolmuş minibuses and municipal buses for Marmaris Centre, Siteler, Armutalan and İçmeler; routes are usually signed by destination. Muğla Kent Kart/Muğla Kart or contactless payment may be used on municipal services, but keep small cash for minibuses and taxis. Taxis are useful late at night or with luggage. In season, boat/water-taxi services can link Marmaris with İçmeler or Turunç, but check the same-day timetable and weather.

Before choosing where to stay

Where to Base

Hotels are primarily concentrated along the main seaside boulevard and the central harbor area. This location offers easy access to restaurants, shops, and the marina. While the original fishing village atmosphere has largely been replaced by development from the 1980s onwards, the central location remains highly convenient for tourists seeking accessibility and coastal views.

Getting Around & Arrival

The nearest major airport is Dalaman Airport, located approximately one hour's drive to the east. Within the city, taxis and local buses are the primary modes of transport. Ferries operate regularly from Marmaris to Greek destinations such as Rhodes and Symi, making it an excellent gateway for island-hopping itineraries.

Best Season

Summer is the peak tourist season, offering hot weather ideal for beach activities and water sports. Winter sees a surge in sailing enthusiasts, as Marmaris is a popular wintering location for hundreds of cruising boaters. The city is accessible year-round, but travelers should consider their preference for bustling summer energy versus the quieter, nautical-focused winter atmosphere.
