Lugano

Lugano, the largest city in the canton of Ticino and the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland, sits majestically on the widest part of Lake Lugano. Surrounded by the Lugano Prealps, this ninth-largest Swiss city blends Southern European charm with Swiss precision. Historically a market town since 984 and integrated into the Old Swiss Confederation in 1513, Lugano's economy is driven by tourism and the tertiary sector, boosted significantly by its status as a key stop on the Gotthard Railway since 1882. For hotel travelers, the city offers a compact yet vibrant base. The urban area, including the adjacent town of Paradiso, occupies the entire bay, providing scenic waterfront accommodations. The municipality extends beyond the lake to include numerous isolated villages on both sides, offering quieter retreats amidst nature. With an international border shared with Italy to the west and east, Lugano serves as an ideal gateway for cross-border exploration. Its well-developed transport links and central location make it highly accessible, while the surrounding landscape provides a stunning backdrop for relaxation and outdoor activities.

Even after META moved to Piazza Riforma in the heart of the city, a visit here is still highly recommended. The entrance is somewhat hidden, with a small staircase leading up to the second floor.
