Before choosing where to stay

Where to Base

East Looe and West Looe are separated by the River Looe but linked by the historic Looe Bridge. Accommodations are primarily located near the harbour and along the steep-sided valley, allowing guests to easily walk between the two distinct areas and enjoy the compact, walkable nature of the town.

Getting Around

Looe is situated 20 miles (32 km) west of Plymouth and 7 miles (11 km) south of Liskeard. Given its small size and compact layout along the river valley, most hotel guests will find that walking is the best way to explore the harbour, beaches, and the connecting bridge between the two towns.

Best Season

The summer months offer the best conditions for visiting Looe Island and enjoying the sandy beaches. The mild coastal climate during this season is ideal for outdoor activities, harbour walks, and exploring the stonier Hannafore Beach opposite the main harbour area.

Dining

Sardine Factory

RestaurantBib Gourmand££3.2 km

A converted sardine factory on the quayside plays host to this laid-back and admirably well-run restaurant which affords views across the harbour to East Looe. The extensive menu champions Cornish seafood across a range of flavourful, well-priced dishes that have been prepared with evident care. The cooking is appealingly straightforward and will likely include day-boat fish with a simple garnish, such as brown shrimp Grenobloise sauce. Don't forget to try the fabulous sardines too, of course, and finish with the soft serve ice cream.

Yamas

Restaurant££3.2 km

Yamas is a Greek toast to the health and wellbeing of friends and family, and it’s the authentic flavours of Greece that power this sister restaurant to the Sardine Factory on the other side of the East Looe River. Grab a seat on the terrace to make the most of the quayside location or have a drink in the first-floor bar, before delighting in classic dishes from stifado to souvlaki. The interesting all-Greek wine list offers a good selection by the glass and all at a fair price. Yamas!
