Where to Base
Choose your base island based on your preference for activity level. Ko Yao Yai is larger, offering more guesthouses, restaurants, and a main village, making it convenient for daily needs. Ko Yao Noi is smaller and quieter, ideal for secluded luxury resorts. Note that you will need boat transfers between the two islands and to the mainland.
Airport Connection
There are no airports directly on Ko Yao. The nearest major airport is Phuket International Airport (HKT). From Phuket, you must take a long-tail boat or speedboat to reach the islands, which typically takes between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the specific resort location and sea conditions. Some travelers also access the islands via boat from Phang Nga town.
Best Season
The best time to visit is during the dry season, from November to April. During these months, the Andaman Sea is calm, skies are clear, and boat transfers are reliable. The monsoon season runs from May to October, bringing rougher seas and rain, which may affect boat schedules and some outdoor activities, though the landscape remains lush and green.
