Ko Lipe

Ko Lipe is a small island in the Adang-Rawi Archipelago, Satun Province, Thailand, situated within the Tarutao National Marine Park near the Malaysian border. Originally inhabited by the Urak Lawoi’ sea gypsies, the island’s economy revolves around tourism, driven by its pristine white sandy beaches and excellent scuba diving opportunities. The name derives from the Malay 'Pulau Nipis,' meaning 'thin island.' As there is no airport, access requires a combination of road and boat travel, making it a secluded destination ideal for travelers seeking a tranquil marine retreat.

Before choosing where to stay

Where to Base

Accommodations are primarily clustered along the northern and southern beach areas. The north offers proximity to the ferry pier for easier logistics, while the south provides a quieter atmosphere. Choose based on whether convenience or tranquility is your priority.

Getting Around

There is no airport on Ko Lipe. Travelers must reach Satun or Hat Yai first, then transfer to long-tail boats or speedboats. On the island, navigation is best done on foot, by songthaew, or motorcycle due to narrow roads.

Best Season

The optimal visiting period is November to April when seas are calm and visibility is high for diving. The monsoon season from May to October brings rougher waters and potential ferry cancellations, so check weather conditions before planning your trip.
