Where to Base
Most hotels are clustered along the main coastal strip, offering sea views and walking distance to restaurants and shops. The area spans two districts: the majority lies in Rivière du Rempart, while the western part falls under Pamplemousses. Travelers should note this distinction when selecting accommodations, as it may influence access to specific regional attractions or administrative services.
Getting Around
There is no direct rail link to the airport. The most convenient option is to take a taxi or arrange a hotel transfer to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU). The drive typically takes 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. Within Grand Baie, taxis and ride-hailing services are readily available for short trips to nearby beaches, malls, or restaurants.
Shopping & Leisure
The Grand-Baie La Croisette shopping mall is a central hub for retail and dining, owned by MaxCity Properties. It is the third such mall built in Mauritius and offers a convenient indoor environment for evening entertainment. Note that a serious escalator accident occurred here in November 2024; however, the facility remains operational and safe for visitors. It is a popular spot for hotel guests looking for air-conditioned leisure options.
