Where to Base
Prioritize staying in Lukavica or Istočno Novo Sarajevo. These neighborhoods serve as the administrative heart of the city, offering the most reliable infrastructure, dining options, and transport links. They provide a convenient hub for accessing other municipal areas within East Sarajevo and crossing into central Sarajevo.
Getting Around
The city covers a vast area of 1,450 km2, but key services are concentrated in the southern suburbs near the boundary. There is no major airport within East Sarajevo; travelers typically arrive via Sarajevo International Airport. Local transport relies on buses and taxis. Note that crossing the Inter-Entity Boundary Line to central Sarajevo may involve checks, so factor this into your itinerary.
Best Season
Winter is ideal for experiencing the city's Olympic legacy and accessing nearby ski slopes, leveraging its 1984 Winter Olympics history. Summer offers pleasant weather for urban exploration. While accessible year-round, winter travel may require flexibility due to potential weather impacts on mountain roads in the broader region.
