Bikaner

Bikaner, located in the northwestern Thar Desert of Rajasthan, India, sits approximately 330 kilometers northwest of the state capital, Jaipur. Historically the capital of the princely Bikaner State, founded in 1488 by Rao Bika, the city has evolved into the fourth largest in Rajasthan. For frequent-flyer hotel travelers, Bikaner offers a unique blend of royal heritage and desert landscape. The city's development was significantly aided by the Ganga Canal (completed 1928) and the Indira Gandhi Canal (completed 1987). Accommodations are best concentrated in the central districts near major historical sites, allowing guests to easily explore the old city walls and palaces on foot. While the city is smaller than Jaipur or Udaipur, it provides an authentic Rajasthani experience with fewer crowds.
