Bandung

Bandung, the capital of Indonesia’s West Java province, sits in the western highlands of Java in a basin surrounded by volcanic mountains, giving it a cooler upland character than many Indonesian provincial capitals. For hotel planning, choose by the trip you want: Braga and Asia-Afrika put you in the historic central core; Dago/Juanda and Cihampelas suit cafes, restaurants, malls and fashion shopping; Setiabudi and the northern side work better for trips toward mountain scenery; Gatot Subroto is practical for Trans Studio and mall-focused stays. Kertajati International Airport is about 68 km from Bandung, and the airport lists bus, shuttle bus, car and taxi options to and from the city.

Getting there & around

From the airport

Bandung's main scheduled air gateway is Kertajati International Airport (KJT) in Majalengka, not in Bandung. Use DAMRI or private airport shuttles to Bandung, or a taxi/ride-hail/private car via the Cisumdawu toll road; allow about 1.5-2.5 hours, longer on weekends. Husein Sastranegara (BDO) is inside Bandung but has very limited flights; by taxi or ride-hail it is usually 10-25 minutes to the centre. There is no airport rail or metro from either airport. Some travelers arrive via Jakarta airports, then use the Whoosh high-speed train from Halim to Padalarang plus the feeder train to Bandung Station.

Around the city

Bandung has no metro. The main formal transit is Metro Jabar Trans buses, supported by local angkot minibuses and limited commuter rail for suburban trips. For buses, carry a reloadable Indonesian e-money card such as e-money, Flazz, TapCash or Brizzi; QRIS may also work if your payment app supports it. Metro Jabar Trans fares are roughly IDR 4,900 per trip. For most first-time visitors, ride-hailing apps, Bluebird taxis and walking within Braga/Dago/Cihampelas are the easiest mix. Traffic is heavy on Fridays, weekends and holidays, especially toward Lembang.
