Where to Base
For hotel travelers, the city center and the Safari District are the optimal bases. These areas cluster the majority of international hotel brands, dining options, and business facilities. Staying here minimizes transit time to the airport and provides convenient access to tour operators organizing trips to nearby parks like Serengeti and Ngorongoro.
Getting Around & Airport
While Arusha itself does not have a major international airport, it is typically accessed via Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). From JRO, the drive to Arusha city center takes approximately 45-60 minutes depending on traffic. Within the city, taxis and ride-hailing services are the primary modes of transport. The compact nature of the central districts means most hotels are within a short drive of key attractions and conference centers.
Best Season
Arusha enjoys a temperate climate year-round due to its elevation. The best times for hotel stays, particularly for those connecting to safaris, are during the dry seasons from June to October and January to February. These periods offer clear skies and better wildlife viewing conditions in nearby national parks. The rainy seasons can make some road access challenging, though the city remains accessible.
