Anacapri

Perched approximately 150 meters above the town of Capri, Anacapri offers a serene, rural retreat characterized by panoramic views of the Bay of Naples. This upper district provides a tranquil alternative to the bustling lower town, making it an ideal base for travelers seeking peace and historic charm. Home to significant landmarks like Villa San Michele, the area combines natural beauty with cultural depth. While access requires navigating the island's terrain, the reward is a sophisticated, quiet atmosphere perfect for relaxation and exploration away from crowds.

Before choosing where to stay

Where to Base

Choosing Anacapri as your base offers cooler air at higher elevations and a significantly quieter atmosphere. It is best suited for travelers who prefer tranquility over nightlife, appreciate historic architecture like Villa San Michele, and want expansive views of the bay without the congestion of the lower town.

Airport Connection

There is no direct airport access. Travelers must first reach Naples or ports along the Amalfi Coast, then take a ferry to the island of Capri. Once on the island, Anacapri is reached via local buses or taxis from the main port or the town of Capri, as there are no internal airports.

Getting Around

Due to the hilly terrain and Anacapri's elevated position, relying on local buses or taxis is recommended for moving between the upper and lower districts. Walking to historic sites involves steep inclines, so comfortable footwear is essential. The compact nature of the village makes short walks feasible once settled.

Best Season

Spring and autumn offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds, ideal for a leisurely pace. While summer brings beautiful sunshine, it also attracts dense tourist numbers, diminishing the sense of rural tranquility. Winter may see some seasonal closures. For the most peaceful experience aligned with Anacapri's character, shoulder seasons are preferable.
