It is highly recommended to book hotels in Aswan city rather than Abu Simbel village. Accommodation options in Abu Simbel are extremely limited. Staying in Aswan provides better hotel standards, dining choices, and easier access to transport hubs for the 300 km journey to the temples.
Avoid the summer months due to extreme heat. The best time to visit is during the cooler winter months (November to March). Plan carefully if you wish to witness the Sun Festival phenomenon, which occurs only twice a year on February 22 and October 22, when sunlight penetrates the inner sanctuary.
There is no airport directly in Abu Simbel. Travelers typically fly into Aswan Airport and then take a private car or join a tour group for the roughly 3-4 hour drive. Given the distance of nearly 300 km by road, allow ample time for round trips and consider the fatigue of long-distance travel.
