Health
Reference only, not medical advice. Slovakia has high general hygiene standards; tap water is generally drinkable in cities, but use treated/bottled water if hiking or unsure. Main practical risks are ticks in forests/grassland, summer heat/UV, sudden mountain weather, winter cold, and slips/injuries in the High Tatras. No malaria risk is listed by CDC; use normal food safety and insect-bite precautions.
Vaccinations
Consult a doctor or travel clinic, ideally at least a month before travel. CDC advises being up to date on routine vaccines, including MMR, polio, flu, varicella, Tdap and shingles where applicable, plus COVID-19. Hepatitis A is recommended for unvaccinated travelers; Hepatitis B is recommended for many unvaccinated travelers. Rabies pre-exposure and tick-borne encephalitis vaccine may be considered for outdoor, rural or animal-exposure itineraries. Yellow fever vaccine is not recommended and not required for entry.
eSIM / connectivity
eSIM is broadly usable on compatible phones in Slovakia, with strong 4G/5G coverage in cities and main corridors but weaker service in remote mountains. Local mobile networks include Orange Slovensko, Slovak Telekom, O2 Slovakia and 4ka; O2 and 4ka publish eSIM activation by app/store or QR code. Travelers can also use EU roaming or travel eSIMs; check device bands, identity rules and activation method before arrival.
