Health
Paraguay is generally low altitude, so altitude sickness is not a usual visitor issue. Heat, humidity and strong sun can be significant, especially in summer and the Chaco; hydrate and plan shade. Use safe food/water habits. Mosquito-borne risks include dengue, Zika, chikungunya, yellow fever and some malaria risk; prevent bites day and night.
Vaccinations
Consult a doctor or travel clinic at least 1 month before travel. Be current on routine vaccines, COVID-19 and MMR. CDC recommends hepatitis A, hepatitis B and typhoid for many travelers; consider rabies for animal/outdoor exposure. Yellow fever vaccine is recommended for travelers 9+ months except trips limited to Asunción, and proof is required for travelers 1+ arriving from Bolivia, Brazil, Peru or Venezuela, including >24h transits; not required for direct U.S. travel.
eSIM / connectivity
eSIM is usable mainly through international travel eSIM providers roaming on Paraguayan networks; do not assume a local prepaid eSIM is available. Main local carriers are Tigo, Personal, Claro and Vox, with prepaid physical SIM/data packs common in cities and shops. Bring an unlocked phone and check registration/ID rules and rural coverage before relying on mobile data.
