Calgary International Airport (YYC) is one of Western Canada’s key connecting airports. Its strongest hub role is with WestJet, which is headquartered in Calgary and uses YYC as its main global connecting base; Air Canada and Star Alliance carriers are also important, but YYC is not a Star Alliance mega-hub in the way Toronto or Vancouver can feel. The airport handles a mix of Canadian domestic flying, U.S. transborder flights with preclearance, regional Western Canada links, sun routes, and long-haul service to Europe and Asia. For frequent flyers, the main operational point is layout: domestic gates sit in concourses A, B and C, while international and U.S. departures use the newer international terminal areas D and E. Connections are workable, but some WestJet domestic-to-international or U.S. transfers can involve a long walk or YYC Link shuttle, so avoid overly tight self-connects.
