Beijing Capital (PEK) remains Beijing’s long-established main international gateway and the core Beijing hub for Air China and Star Alliance, with Hainan Airlines still important in Terminal 2. Daxing has taken some Beijing traffic, but PEK continues to handle a broad mix of domestic, international, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan services. For frequent flyers and transit passengers, the practical question is less “is PEK big?” and more “am I staying in the same terminal, and is my bag through-checked?” Same-terminal Air China or Star Alliance connections in T3 are usually the smoothest; T2-T3 changes add a landside shuttle, fresh security, and often immigration/customs steps depending on itinerary.
