Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) remains Beijing’s main legacy hub and the practical airport for many Air China, Star Alliance and Hainan Airlines itineraries, even after Beijing Daxing (PKX) took over a large share of China Eastern, China Southern and other traffic. PEK sits about 32 km northeast of central Beijing. For frequent flyers, the key split is simple: Terminal 3 is the big Air China/Star Alliance and long-haul connection machine, while Terminal 2 handles Hainan Airlines, many SkyTeam flights and selected other carriers. Always verify the terminal by flight number because alliance exceptions exist.
