Chennai International Airport (MAA) is a major South India gateway rather than a global alliance mega-hub. It functions as an IndiGo operating base, an Air India focus city, and a Blue Dart Aviation cargo hub; Star Alliance presence comes mainly through Air India and partners, while oneworld/SkyTeam do not use MAA as a hub. The network is strongest for Indian domestic trunk routes plus South Asia, Southeast Asia and Gulf/Middle East flying, with limited longer-haul links. As of now, passenger operations are split across T1 and T4 for domestic flights and the newer T2 for international flights, with terminal works still evolving. Frequent flyers should treat MAA as convenient but not fully seamless: transfers can involve landside movement, immigration/customs/security, and a walk or buggy between terminals. The airport metro is usually the most predictable city option, while taxis/rideshares are better for door-to-door trips or late arrivals.
