Tijuana International Airport (TIJ) is best understood as a high-utility Mexican domestic gateway with a unique cross-border role. Volaris treats TIJ as a hub, Viva has a significant base/focus-city presence, and Aeromexico, Mexicana and selected international carriers also appear in the schedule. It is not a global alliance fortress airport: alliance benefits are limited compared with Mexico City or major U.S. hubs, and most connections are domestic or cross-border self-positioning trips via the CBX bridge from San Diego. The passenger setup is compact: one main Mexican terminal with Concourses A and B, plus the Cross Border Xpress facility on the U.S. side for eligible passengers with TIJ flights. For downtown Tijuana/Zona Centro, the simplest traveler-facing answer is an authorized taxi or app-based car from the Mexican arrivals side, usually around 15-25 minutes in normal traffic; buses exist but are less predictable for visitors with bags.
