Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza (TIA) is Albania’s main scheduled international gateway, serving Tirana from Rinas with a network led by European and nearby regional routes. It is better understood as a fast-growing point-to-point airport than as a classic global alliance hub: Wizz Air and Ryanair are the key based/large low-cost operators, while full-service carriers link TIA into hubs such as Istanbul, Vienna, Frankfurt/Munich, Rome and London. The passenger operation is concentrated in one terminal, so there is no inter-terminal transfer system to plan around; the main friction for connections is whether your itinerary is protected and whether you must enter Albania, reclaim bags and clear security again. For the city, licensed taxi is the most convenient frequent-flyer option at roughly 20-25 minutes to central Tirana in normal traffic; the airport bus to the Opera/Ballet area near Skanderbeg Square runs 24/7 and usually takes about 30-40 minutes. There is no major airside hotel product, so short layovers are best kept in the terminal or Business Lounge; longer layovers can work for central Tirana if immigration eligibility and traffic leave a comfortable buffer.
