Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas (MAD) is Madrid’s main international airport and Spain’s key long-haul gateway, especially for Europe-Latin America flows. It is the main hub for Iberia and Iberia Express, with Air Nostrum feeding Iberia’s network, and it is also important for Air Europa and several Spain-based leisure carriers. For frequent flyers, the big operational split is simple: T4/T4S is the Iberia and oneworld campus; T1, T2 and T3 are the older connected terminals used by many SkyTeam, Star Alliance, non-aligned and low-cost carriers. T4 and satellite T4S are linked airside by an automated train of about five minutes; T1-T2-T3 are walkable/connected, while T1/T2/T3 to T4 normally means the free landside shuttle and extra time. The best city-centre links are Metro Line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios or Cercanías rail from T4 toward Chamartín/Atocha; expect roughly 20-30 minutes to major interchange points before any onward metro/taxi leg. MAD works well for same-campus Iberia connections, but terminal changes can involve entering Spain, passport control and security, so check your terminal pair before booking tight self-connects.
