Where to Base
It is highly recommended to base your stay in the Casco Histórico (Old Town). This area contains the majority of Almagro's key attractions, including the Corral de Comedias and the Plaza Mayor. Staying here allows for easy walking access to restaurants, shops, and historical sites, immersing you in the city's authentic Renaissance atmosphere without the need for extensive transportation.
Airport Connection
Almagro does not have its own airport. The closest airport is Ciudad Real Airport (CQM), though it has limited service. Most travelers fly into Madrid-Barajas (MAD) or Barcelona-El Prat (BCA) and then take a long-distance bus or train to Ciudad Real, followed by local transport to Almagro. Travel time from Madrid can range from 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending on the mode of transport and connections.
Best Season
The best times to visit are spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October), when temperatures are mild and ideal for exploring the outdoor plazas and historic streets. Summers can be quite hot, while winters are cold. If you are interested in performing arts, the International Festival of Classical Theatre held at the Corral de Comedias in summer is a major event, but accommodation should be booked well in advance due to high demand.
