Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) is Nepal’s main international gateway and the operating centre for Kathmandu’s dense domestic network, especially flights onward to Pokhara, Nepalgunj, Biratnagar and mountain/trekking gateways. It is not a major global alliance hub, but Nepal Airlines and Himalaya Airlines use KTM as their principal international base, while Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, Shree Airlines and other Nepalese carriers anchor the domestic side. The airport has two public passenger terminals, international and domestic, and transfers are usually a landside process rather than a seamless airside hub connection. For frequent flyers, the practical rule is to build in buffer: KTM has a single runway in mountainous terrain, weather can affect operations, and international-to-domestic connections normally involve immigration, baggage reclaim, customs, moving terminal, check-in and security again. For the city, prepaid or metered taxis are the simplest option, with Thamel and central Kathmandu commonly around 20-45 minutes away depending on traffic. Lounges exist but the landscape is modest: the Radisson-operated executive lounge and Thai Airways’ Royal Silk/Royal Orchid presence are the main names to know; Priority Pass and DragonPass availability should be checked in the app on the day because contract access can change.
