Common questions

Does a Chinese passport holder with a valid US visa get visa-free entry to Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha?

No waiver can be sourced from a US visa alone. Saint Helena’s official e-visa FAQ lists China among passports requiring an e-visa in advance, and its listed exemptions do not include a US visa. Ascension Island is stricter: its official guidance says e-visas are currently not issued to Chinese nationals. Tristan da Cunha requires no visa, but all visitors must obtain advance approval from the Administrator/Island Council and a landing stamp in the passport.

Are British passport holders visa-free for Ascension Island?

No. Ascension’s official FAQ says all nationalities, including British citizens, require an Ascension e-visa unless they fall within listed military, government, official-duty, certain contractor/dependant, crew, or gazetted exemptions. There is no visa-on-arrival facility.

Does a US passport holder need a visa for a short visit to Saint Helena island?

Generally no visa in advance is required. The United States is not on Saint Helena’s official list of passports requiring an e-visa; however, entry permission is still decided by an Immigration Officer on arrival, and passport-validity and insurance conditions still apply.

Is a visa required for Tristan da Cunha?

No visa is required, but visitors cannot simply arrive. The official tourism page says all visitors must hold a valid passport and obtain permission to land by having a landing stamp inserted in the passport; independent visitors also need advance approval from the Administrator/Island Council.
