Common questions

Can a Chinese passport holder with a valid US visa visit Italy visa-free for short tourism or business?

No, not as a sourced visa waiver. Mainland Chinese ordinary passport holders are listed as needing a visa for Italy, and the sourced Schengen substitute-document rule supports Schengen visas/residence documents, not a US visa as a substitute for entry to Italy.

Can a Chinese passport holder with a valid Schengen visa enter Italy?

Yes, if the visa is valid, has sufficient entries and days of stay, and is not territorially restricted away from Italy. A short-stay Schengen visa is generally valid for all Schengen states, with the short-stay limit remaining 90 days in any 180-day period.

Is there an extra passport condition for Taiwan passport holders visiting Italy visa-free?

Yes. The sourced Schengen visa-waiver list notes Taiwan passport holders must have passports containing an identity card number. If so, short tourist or business visits are visa-free up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Do US passport holders currently need ETIAS for a short visit to Italy?

As of 2026-06-18, this table treats ETIAS as not yet required. EU material says visa-exempt travellers will need ETIAS six months after full EES implementation, and that ETIAS is not a visa; Italy remains visa-free for short stays, but travellers should monitor the ETIAS start date.
