Common questions

Can a mainland Chinese passport holder with a valid US visa enter Hungary visa-free?

No. EU Schengen visa law lists China among countries whose nationals need a visa; the EU visa-exempt list and Schengen visa rules do not make a US visa a substitute document for entry to Hungary. A valid Schengen visa, or another applicable Schengen residence/visa document, is required before travel.

Can a mainland Chinese passport holder with a valid Schengen visa travel to Hungary?

Yes, if the visa is used within its validity, number of entries, permitted duration of stay, and territorial scope. A Schengen short-stay visa is generally valid for all Schengen countries, and Hungary applies the common Schengen rules.

Does a Hong Kong SAR passport holder need a visa or ETIAS for a short trip to Hungary?

Currently, no visa is required and ETIAS is not yet required. The EU list exempts Hong Kong SAR passport holders for Schengen short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period; ETIAS is not in operation as of 2026-06-18 and is expected to start in Q4 2026.

Are Taiwan passport holders visa-free for short trips to Hungary?

If the passport includes an identity card number, it is visa-free for short tourist or business travel to Hungary and the Schengen area, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
