Description
This busy, welcoming little restaurant occupies five first-floor shipping containers on Wapping Wharf, a thriving neighbourhood with an array of top eateries. Vegetables lead the way here, with the majority of dishes being vegetarian and utilising the best produce from small local suppliers in simple yet flavour-packed sharing plates. Ingredients from carrots to hispi cabbage are elevated with well-balanced and wholly satisfying flavour combinations. There’s a terrific buzz and the service team run their deservedly popular restaurant admirably smoothly.

Review summary
Root in Bristol offers modern plant-based cuisine served as sharing plates. Food quality is generally praised for creativity and balance, with highlights including potatoes, bread & butter pudding, and Jerusalem artichoke. However, some guests found dishes too oily or under-seasoned. Service is typically attentive and warm, though occasional issues with pacing and missed items were noted. The atmosphere is comfortable with river views, but seating arrangements can be inconsistent, with some booking indoor tables only to sit in direct sunlight. Value perceptions vary; while many find the experience worthwhile, others consider the portion sizes small relative to the cost.
Best for
Ideal for visitors seeking creative vegetarian sharing plates; confirm seating preferences in advance.
