Description
Charm and character can be found in every pore of this delightful 16th-century inn with low ceilings and a cosy atmosphere. Experienced chef Simon Bonwick is now at the helm, which means classical dishes packed with honest, hearty flavours and seasonal goodness, be that Salcombe crab with cashews and apple or Highland beef with his signature ‘rather nice sauce’. The entire experience is wholesome, welcoming and a simply lovely time. For something different, book the Troublesome Lodger private dining experience in The Snug, decorated with Bonwick’s own art.

Review summary
Located in Bray, the Crown offers a blend of French and Modern British cuisine in a cozy, atmospheric setting. Many reviewers praise the high-quality Sunday roasts and flavorful main courses, noting friendly and attentive service ideal for celebrations. However, some recent feedback highlights inconsistencies, including slow pacing, undercooked or bland dishes like sole, and perceived reductions in portion sizes. Several guests also mention that value for money has declined, citing higher prices relative to the experience. While the ambiance remains a strong point with its log fire and art, the overall dining experience varies significantly depending on the specific visit and management changes.
Best for
Suitable for those seeking a cozy atmosphere and classic British roasts, though caution regarding recent service consistency is advised.
