2026 is already penned in ink as the 40th anniversary of the year in which the Roca brothers opened the doors of this famed restaurant. They describe themselves as an “equilateral triangle that encompasses the three sides of gastronomy” and like to say that their luck is down to the balance struck in a metaphorical “game of three players”, with Joan in charge of savoury dishes, Josep as the sommelier and Jordi on dessert duty. Whatever their approach, the essence of their cuisine is to enable guests to experience enjoyment through their eyes, palate and every other sense as part of a spiral of

A family-run restaurant with plenty of history and a positive future ahead of it. After more than 30 years at the helm, chef Pere Massana and his wife Ana Roger have brought their children into the business, with one in charge of the dining room, the other bringing fresh impetus to Massana’s cuisine in the kitchen. Here, you’ll find an elegant setting and a combination of tradition and innovation that highlights a constant focus on locally sourced ingredients and the use of contemporary cooking techniques to maximise flavour. There’s also plenty of attention to detail, presentation and balance.

In this restaurant, which stands out for its contemporary design set against a backdrop of beautiful Catalan vaults, the highlight is the constant attention provided by the owners: Joan Morillo in the dining room and his wife, Laura Tejero, as sommelier. The menu, which could be described as a nostalgic take on Catalan cuisine (with subtle undertones and well-judged French influences), aims to offer the finest ingredients and a wide range of choices; that’s why the menu allows you to order half portions, and if you fancy letting yourself be guided, there’s also a full tasting menu available. An old military fortress provides the backdrop for this Roca brothers venture, occupying the imposing Castillo de Sant Julià de Ramis, barely 10km from Girona, which they have transformed into a leading food and cultural centre. In this setting, which also features a superb hotel, everything makes an impression, from the access through the CCR exhibition explaining the creative processes of El Celler de Can Roca (CCR), to the impressive dome in the wine cellar (housing over 80 000 bottles), academy-library and the distillery that now acts as the restaurant’s R&D space. In the heart of Girona's Barri Vell, in a narrow street that runs parallel to the Onyar riverbed, this restaurant is a great option, surprising diners with its interior design, the kitchen open to the dining room and large stone arches that speak of the magnificent urban historical legacy. The couple at the helm, formed with the Roca brothers, champion traditional Catalan cuisine expertly brought up to date, constantly looking at the season and with interesting suggestions. Our recommendations? We especially liked both the scallop tartare, manzanilla olive and piparra sauce and the creamy Pala

This, the more informal of the Roca brothers’ restaurants, located in Girona’s busy old town, is where you will find artisanal cuisine with the famous chefs’ seal of quality, with its roots in the land and top-quality products. The menu here is centred on traditional Catalan recipes, including delicious stews. You will also encounter elements of fusion and emblematic dishes such as whisky tart with egg yolk ice cream, and a complete tasting menu, which should be booked in advance.

A restaurant that acts as a culinary link between its guests and small-scale local producers, hence its name which translates as “nexus” in English. Choose between the à la carte and an interesting set menu on which the focus is on contemporary-style cuisine with a nod to Asia.

A restaurant with a contemporary, urban and industrial feel, a black-inspired decor, and a name that has evolved from “si no fós” – a type of public bench where those without work would sit and congregate. Excellent cuisine featuring high-quality ingredients and a Mediterranean influence, including beef from the ‘LyO’ company in Galicia and superb fish direct from the fish market in Blanes. You have the choice of several tasting menus named after famous rappers or hip hop groups, such as Cypress Hill, Action Bronson and Notorious B.I.G. Our recommendation?
