Le Petit Bellevue
Italian Contemporary, Cuisine from the Aosta Valley · ★ Michelin
€€€€
This is an exquisite gem within one of the region's most renowned and romantic hotels, the Bellevue Hotel & Spa, holder of two Michelin keys. With just five tables, two of which overlook the valley ending spectacularly with Gran Paradiso, Tuscan chef Niccolò de Riu celebrates the Valle d'Aosta in his kitchen with very few deviations, char and roe deer being excellent examples. Following the savoury part of the meal and preceding the talented pastry chef, Roberto from Bergamo will challenge your resistance with an excellent cheese cart, featuring mainly regional cheeses. Three dining rooms of contemporary atmosphere receive guests, one of which overlooks a delightful garden where, during the warmer months, just three tables are available: advance booking is therefore advisable. The cooking is firmly rooted in the Piedmontese tradition, yet allows itself to be pleasingly enriched by creative impulses and occasional forays of Oriental inspiration. Should you wish, the chef-patron himself will guide you through the menu, enriching the experience with exact and passionate explanations of each dish. Of considerable note also is the cellar, which numbers some 1,700

A series of rooms teeming with warmth and atmosphere provide the backdrop for this simple and homely restaurant on the edge of town, where the chef announces dishes at your table. Although the menu can vary, pride of place is given to Piedmontese ingredients and culinary traditions, such as the cream of roasted chestnuts and mushrooms and the delicious snails.

Situated on the main square of a charming village, this hotel-restaurant dates back to the late 19C and is run by the friendly Arsini family. The setting here is truly picturesque, thanks to the village’s location on a green and sunny ridge in the Val Chiusella, surrounded by cyclamen bushes and majestic birch and chestnut trees. Meanwhile, the Piedmontese dishes offer excellent value for money, with a focus on local ingredients and produce from the wider region. If you’re a fan of traditional cuisine, don’t miss the tripe alla campagnola with polenta taragna whipped with butter, while in seas

Paolo Griffa al Caffè Nazionale
Creative, Italian Contemporary · ★ Michelin
€€€€
A historic city restaurant, overlooking Aosta's main square, has been brought back to life by the passion of young chef Paolo Griffa. It offers colourful, balanced and contemporary cuisine, available in 3, 5 or 7-course tasting menus. Always attentive to the harmony of flavours and chromatic beauty of dishes, the chef demonstrates a growing skill in handling vegetables, as evidenced by the vegetarian dishes always on the menu. The service is of an excellent standard and the wine offerings of great depth. Of course, as the name suggests, some spaces are dedicated to excellent coffee, equipped w

Despite its central location and elegant ambience, this former 17C mill, which has retained its old wheel and millstone in the dining room, has the feel of the open mountains. The excellent service here is overseen by Paolo Bariani, one of the partners, who is also responsible for the 300 or so wines in the cellar. The wine list features a careful balance of famous names and small wineries, with wines also available by the glass. The second partner, chef Filippo Oggioni, is at the helm in the kitchen, where he skilfully showcases the flavours and traditions of the Aosta valley with a modern tw

This fine dining establishment is part of a luxurious hotel, which feels like a plush chalet. On the edge of the famous ski run, Face de Bellevarde, the restaurant is chic and elegant with a wealth of wood, exposed stone and mirrors. Passionate about his craft, conscientious chef Antoine Gras shows the utmost respect for the ingredients. These he showcases in flavoursome dishes that don't mess around. The combinations are spot on: just-seared langoustine, julienne vegetables, chilled vinaigrette with grated carrots; whitefish from Lake Geneva, sorrel, silky gourd purée with juniper berries. Th

Stefano Mancinelli and Sabrina Stravato are the two chefs who have taken over the reins in the kitchen at this original restaurant just a stone’s throw from the Santuario della Consolata. Although the format here remains the same (a blind tasting menu), the chefs are also making their mark on the creative cuisine, which combines typical dessert techniques and recipes with savoury elements (and vice versa) throughout the meal, as seen in the savoury potato crème caramel with onion. As previously, guests are greeted by the chefs in a small lounge and then served at a counter where they sit side
