The farm-to-table ethos is consistently put into practice in this culinary gem nestled in verdant surroundings. Almost everything on your plate comes from the restaurant's own produce: around Heidelberg, some 750 varieties of vegetables, herbs and fruit are cultivated across approximately 7 000m2. Each day's set menu is determined by what the gardeners have freshly harvested in the fields and brought to the kitchen that morning. It is little wonder this restaurant remains so popular. The cosy setting has a "living room" feel, enhanced by charming nostalgic touches that lend the space character. The service is attentive and friendly. The cuisine is modern and ingredient-led… Diners are presented with a "market basket" of the day's featured produce, which forms the basis of a surprise set menu available in three to six courses. For those who prefer to dine al fresco, the Atrium in the inner courtyard is an appealing option with its views into the glass-fronted kitchen.

A word to the wise: make sure you book, as this really appealing restaurant is always busy! Housed in an old railway station dating from 1903, the atmosphere is laid-back, the decor modern with industrial charm and the food excellent. On the blackboard there is a seasonal set menu – choose between meat, fish and vegetarian for the main course. They also have a selection of German wines. Dine at the counter to watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen.

Tristan Brandt has found a fantastic setting for his new fine dining concept here. The location right next to the castle park is wonderful – the terrace is a truly idyllic spot! Inside, mouldings are combined with modern elements to create a chic interior. The cuisine strikes a successful balance of diverse styles, with a menu that includes Flammkuchen and cake in the afternoon, as well as Tristan Brandt's specials such as truffle fries or caviar, alongside such classics as Wiener schnitzel with warm potato salad or char and beef fillet.

To start with, the location on a 45ha estate is terrific. The cosy space with a tiled stove that draws the eye exudes rustic charm and a certain chic. Specialities include various dishes featuring meat from bison they have reared on their own farm. Note: On Mondays only bison burgers, or veggie burgers, are served. Tip: the marvellous terrace with a view of the countryside! There is also the ‘WILD X BERG’ restaurant, where you can enjoy a three or four-course menu on Saturdays from 6 p.m. The small Lammershof hotel, the main building of which dates from 1709, has cosy guestrooms.

This is just the sort of restaurant you would like to have in your neighbourhood. At this lovely location in the Old Town, in the cosy atmosphere of a charming centuries-old half-timbered house, you can look forward to great food and select wines and expert recommendations. The ambitious food is rooted in classic French cuisine and courts modern trends. In addition to the seasonal menu, daily specials feature on the blackboard.
