Its origins dating back to the 17C, this site is steeped in history. Today the building houses pretty hotel rooms and an extremely tasteful restaurant with authentic charm – plenty of wood and low ceilings make for a really cosy atmosphere. In summer, the terrace, too, is very inviting. When it comes to the food, the kitchen draws on what the market has to offer. This charming old Rhine Valley building dating back to 1639 is quite something! A Dornbirn landmark right on the Marktplatz (still the market square), it has been sensitively renovated and restored, and now boasts five really beautiful historical rooms. Delicious Austrian cuisine with Mediterranean influences is on the menu – the Wiener schnitzel and fried chicken are as appetising as the pickled char with radish and rhubarb-wild garlic vinaigrette. The building itself is really quite something. Dating back to the 13C, this former courthouse – also known as the Schmiedhaus – has retained its original charm both on the outside and in its five dining areas, which feature plenty of old wood and historical details. A cosy atmosphere prevails throughout. Diners are served cuisine in a classical vein that draws on high-quality ingredients. Think variations of scallop – carpaccio au gratin and crispy scallop on a bed of mango and avocado salad. In summer, the garden planted with chestnut trees makes for a romantic setting.
