Scola
Creative
€€€
Situated in the heart of the Ligurian hinterland, this country house is a real gem, surrounded by a garden that resembles a painting with an English-style lawn that ripples in the wind. Since 1926, the Scola family, now in the fourth generation, have offered guests a friendly welcome here, serving cuisine that is a delight for the tastebuds. In the warm dining room, where the wooden floor and exposed beams hint at the building’s history, guests enjoy traditional local dishes that have been reinterpreted with a modern twist, such as spaghetti with grapefruit, purple prawns and sea lettuce – an

Locanda Nelli
Mediterranean Cuisine, Seafood
€€
A friendly and welcoming little restaurant in the heart of the town’s historic centre. It’s no surprise that the specialities here focus mainly on fish and seafood, with an emphasis on Mediterranean cuisine, homemade pasta and the use of extremely fresh ingredients – the menu changes daily depending on market availability. The charming outdoor space boasts tables set out along the small pedestrianised street.

Machettö
Contemporary, Ligurian
€€€
Situated amid the picturesque alleyways of the historic centre, this beautiful restaurant boasts an elegant decor and a warm, friendly welcome. Here, the young, talented chef (originally from Campania but now settled in Liguria) serves Mediterranean cuisine with a traditional regional influence cleverly added to each dish. Our favourite dishes included the excellent trenette pasta with octopus ragù and 24-month-aged parmesan fondue, and the timeless “brandacujun”, which is freshly prepared and served at your table by the chef himself.

This stylish, elegant restaurant occupying a historic 17C building in an attractive medieval village serves contemporary cuisine which is influenced by recipes and ingredients from Liguria and Piedmont alike. Dishes include Ligurian-style rabbit terrine with a pine nut and gravy sauce, and Piedmontese white suckling pig tomahawk on sauerkraut with a spicy, sour apple sauce.

Ai Torchi
Seafood, Ligurian
€€€
Occupying a 17C olive oil press in the heart of a charming medieval village, this restaurant has retained its old stone mill and wooden press in its vaulted dining room, which provides the backdrop for imaginative fish and seafood dishes prepared using top-quality local ingredients. The delicious Italian-style ceviche is made from the catch of the day, while the Mare Mare mixed fish dish is baked in a casserole with cherry tomatoes, courgettes and bay leaves. If you’re looking for a simpler option, try the I Torchiettibistro on the corner of the same street.

Rosita
Ligurian, Classic Cuisine
€€
Decorated in the same simple and rustic style as the Hotel Rosita in which it is housed, this restaurant boasts an attractive terrace overlooking the sea and the coast (call in advance to book one of the tables with the best view), which more than compensates for the narrow, winding road that you have to follow to get here. The delicious cuisine is regional in flavour, including seafood options such as the excellent stuffed baby squid in a sauce served with mashed potatoes, and meat dishes that include a tasty rabbit casserole.
