Fourteen steps lead you down to this friendly, cosy cellar restaurant in a beautiful old villa in Neustadt, where sandstone walls and brick vaults make for a special setting. In a wonderfully informal atmosphere, brother-and-sister team Marcus and Nicole Blonkowski serve interesting, modern and creative cuisine prepared using top-quality produce – and the value for money is hard to beat! There is a nicely curated à la carte selection, but you can also opt to give the kitchen team free rein to put together a surprise menu for you. The wine list features labels from eastern Germany exclusively,

With its industrial-style architecture, loft feel and elegant, upmarket interior, Elements is a chic restaurant in the historical Zeitenströmung building complex. Run by Martina and Stephan Mießner, he heads up the kitchen; she is in charge of the friendly and smooth front-of-house service. Once the staff area of the former turbine factory, the spacious room boasts floor-to-ceiling arched windows, lovely floorboards and a high open ceiling. The dishes are pleasantly well defined and pared down, with plenty of bold flavours and finesse – opt for the "Chef's Menu" or put together your own menu f

Atelier Sanssouci – the name alone sounds stylish, and this wonderful 18C estate certainly lives up to it! Not only is the exterior with its magnificent garden a veritable feast for the eyes, but the interior is also a sight to behold. The large dining room done out in an elegant Mediterranean style boasts remarkable chandeliers and a high ceiling. And the sophisticated cuisine is on a par with this romantic setting. First-rate ingredients are used to create a successful blend of classic and modern dishes. Choose five to 10 courses to make up your meal, or just specify the number of courses an

Martin Walther is the fourth generation of his family at the helm of this restaurant named after the nearby Dresdner Heide woodland. His mother and father are still involved in running the business. In the grand house dating back to 1905, which used to be a café that hosted tea dances, modern cuisine with an international slant is served in the form of two four- or five-course set menus: "wasser & weide" ("water & pasture") and "acker & beet" ("field & garden bed" – vegetarian). An optional cheese selection as an additional course. Seasonal dishes are also available à la carte. The pierogi are

Here, in an appealingly down-to-earth and relaxed atmosphere, you can enjoy interesting international cuisine that is based on the seasons and drawn from select ingredients. The terrace on Niagaraplatz, a square with a waterfall feature, is also charming… The traditional hooded beach chairs are great for really chilling out. Good to know: They serve hot food all day.

A French-style brasserie par excellence. Stephan Fröhlich and his wife Nadine run their small restaurant with a personal touch – he is the head chef and she is the sommelier. In this cosy setting, diners can look forward to friendly service and good seasonal cuisine in the form of two set menus. Given the popularity of the place, it is advisable to book in advance. In summer the gorgeous terrace beckons. Tip: Delicatessen goods can be purchased to take home. Overnight accommodation available.

In the attractive Bülow Palais in Dresden's Baroque Quarter, the bistro and winter garden have been combined into Caroussel Nouvelle, with a stylish interior by acclaimed designer Carlo Rampazzi. At lunch and dinner, an appealing à la carte menu is available alongside a three- or four-course set menu. The cooking is inspired by both French and regional traditions and shaped by the seasons. The flavour, technical skill and quality of the ingredients are all equally strong. Classics feature as well as more modern creations. For an aperitif or digestif, head to the Palais Bar and Cigar Lounge.

This appealing concept combining delicatessen, café and bistro is the "little brother", as it were, of Feine Kost. Sharing the same premises, both belong to seasoned chef Mario Pattis. Kantine – open during the day – has a short menu that is supplemented by a handful of daily specials. The recipes stick close to the seasons and to products available in the delicatessen. Thanks to the open kitchen, diners are able to watch as delicious, meticulous dishes that won't break the bank are carefully prepared – the quiche is particularly popular. The service is friendly and down-to-earth. Tip: Choose
