Pousada Forte Horta
Set in a marvellous 16th-century fortress which overlooks Horta Bay on the island of Faial, this pousada is the perfect base for a cultural holiday in the Azores. The city's port is just 400 metres away, bringing visitors to and from other islands of the Azores, and the beautiful black sand beach at Praia de Almoxarife is just a ten-minute drive from the hotel. The hotel itself has been classified as a national monument since 1947, and its classic rooms provide a wonderful oasis of peace and comfort with a historical air.
