Riu
RIU is a Spanish family-owned hotel group that began in Mallorca in 1953, when the Riu family acquired the Hotel San Francisco in Playa de Palma. The company’s own 2025 year-end update reported a portfolio of 100 RIU hotels in 22 countries, with 54,412 rooms. Its center of gravity remains beach-holiday and all-inclusive hospitality, while Riu Plaza is the group’s urban-hotel line, launched in 2010 with Riu Plaza Panama and now present in major cities in the Americas and Europe. Within the resort portfolio, Riu Palace is used for higher-category properties, and Elite Club is described by RIU as a premium product with selected rooms and services. RIU’s loyalty program is Riu Class, which the company describes as a program for preferred customers with exclusive benefits, discounts and points.
