Where to Base
Stay near the Plaza Mayor, the heart of the town. This area is surrounded by well-preserved 16th-century colonial buildings and cobblestone streets. Being centrally located allows easy walking access to major attractions, restaurants, and bars, immersing you in the historic atmosphere without needing transport.
Getting Around & Arrival
There is no airport; the nearest major hubs are Bogotá or Tunja. It is approximately a 3-hour drive or bus ride from Bogotá. Within the town, walking is the best way to explore due to narrow cobblestone streets. For visiting surrounding wineries or fossil sites, renting a car or joining local tours is recommended.
Best Season
The cool, dry climate makes it a year-round destination, particularly appealing as a summer retreat. Peak seasons include June-August and December-February, coinciding with weekends when visitors from Bogotá flood the town. Booking accommodations well in advance is advisable during these periods to secure preferred lodging.
